While living abroad in Spain, I recently found myself pondering on what it must be like for the deaf to travel across the globe. I am aware that there is a device that translates ASL to English, why not design a similar device that allows for cross-cultural communication among the deaf population?
Why is this important to me?
My younger sister is deaf. She shares a love for travel and expanding her cultural lens. I have seen, firsthand, just how frustrating it can be when communication barriers are present here in the United States and can imagine that the frustration would only increase while abroad. Cross-cultural communication is a gateway to building relationships in foreign countries.
