I had always known that trafficking existed, but was blissfully ignorant to the scale of the issue on U.S. soil before I took a class on trauma and trauma victims/survivors. I then spent a semester as an intern at a wonderful organization seeking to bring healing to those affected, and I knew I would never again be able to turn a blind eye to the 27 million people enslaved on our planet today.
Why is this important to me?
Technology has drastically changed our lives, many would say for the better. There are databases and applications to meet almost any need, but sadly there has yet to be successful software developed to aid anti-human trafficking efforts. Such technology would be a priceless and invaluable resource to those fighting this horrific injustice. It would aid rescue efforts & hopefully reduce recidivism.
