Sparked by Jason Lacey
Football is a major thread in the fabric of Americana. We love the game, but no one wants to see players get concussions. The future of Football depends on new technologies that reduce the number of concussions. Help find tech that saves the game!
Clean Rover. Help NASA expl...
Sparked by Trevor McKeeman
Houston we have a problem! There is water on Mars, but we currently can't go test it to see if there is life. Why? Our Mars rovers aren't sterilized enough & we don't want to introduce Earth based bacteria into Mars water. We need a tech that sterilizes new rovers, without damaging any electronics, instruments, or function. Helping NASA find a solution may help us find new life on Mars & beyond!
Safe Eye Med Dropper
Sparked by Reed Hoffman
We need a simple technology to help people deliver eye drop medication into their eyes. Many people struggle to get drops in their eyes & risk losing their sight without the medication. It is easy to miss their eye with the drops entirely or strike their eye with the dropper bottle. The technology should work with many original medication bottles, it should be inexpensive, sterile, & easy to use.
Drone Sense & Avoid - Aircraft
Sparked by Kurt Barnhart
The future of drones flying beyond line of sight will require technology that allows the drone to detect & avoid light aircraft & other moving objects. This competition is to effectively demonstrate a safe, light, cost effective technology for small UAS <55 lbs to avoid aircraft & protect lives.
MedPic Prescription Drug App
Sparked by Dr Robert Shpiner
Medication errors are a large component of healthcare morbidity & mortality. Errors also add to liability, waste, & delays in proper treatment. Lives can be saved with a simple app that: Photographs medication bottle, label, & pill. Creates a list of all meds & supplements. Alerts for drug interactions. Allows easy sharing for patients, family, caregiver, doctors, & pharmacists. Is widely adopted.
Roadable Aircraft / Flying Car
Sparked by Jessica Fox
The dream of an aircraft that can legally drive on main roads to an airport, take to the air, & commute to another city has been around for many years. However, advances in materials, hardware, & software are now making it possible. A number of companies are building prototypes. Let's accelerate this process & literally create a race to bring more visibility to this tech & help make it mainstream.
ALS Communication Challenge
Sparked by Stephen Finger
Create an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device that allows patients who have lost their ability to speak, and with limited motor control, to communicate at the pace of a normal conversation (125-150 wpm).
ALS Diagnostic Test
Sparked by Seth Christensen
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) has been recognized by Western medicine for over 150 years, yet there is still no definitive diagnostic test for this syndrome. Rather, patients are given a "clinical diagnosis" (a best guess following elimination of other potential diagnoses). On average, this nondefinitive opinion is given ~1 year after symptom onset. Life expectancy is 2-5 years thereafter.
Anti-Human Trafficking Soft...
Sparked by Wheeler Crimm
We would love to see software created or an application developed that helps identify human trafficking offenders, alerts authorities, brings them to justice, frees victims, and overall, reduces the scale of human trafficking globally. There is currently no such technology that has been successful. Such a development would be invaluable in today's efforts to eradicate this horrific reality.
Pilot Color Vision - FAA Me...
Sparked by Trevor McKeeman
Many pilots & future pilots fear losing the ability to fly, something they love. Color Vision Deficiency (CVD) impacts 1 in 12 men & 1 in 200 women. Failing the color vision test in a FAA medical can end this dream of flying. Let’s fix this discrimination with a wearable technology that allows pilots to pass the exam. This may also help millions of kids with CVD who struggle with color in school.
